Former India cricketer and cricket analyst Aakash Chopra has exposed a viral social media post that falsely claimed Sanju Samson wants to become Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain and had criticised current skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The post, shared by an account named Mahi Patel on X, allegedly quoted Samson discussing his willingness to take up any responsibility at CSK. It also attributed harsh comments about Gaikwad's captaincy to the wicketkeeper-batter.

However, Chopra has now clarified that the alleged interview never happened and that Samson did not make the comments circulating online.

Aakash Chopra Exposes Fake Sanju Samson Interview

Chopra addressed the viral claim through his #JhoothKaDRS series, where he has been highlighting misinformation and fabricated claims related to cricket.

While discussing the post on his YouTube channel, Chopra categorically rejected the alleged interview.

“This interview does not exist. Samson has not said this at all. It is fake news. This interview never happened. Sanju never said this.”

Chopra's clarification came after the post attracted considerable attention on social media. Several fans praised Samson and suggested that he could be an ideal captain for CSK, while others questioned whether the interview was genuine.

Viral Post Falsely Claims Sanju Samson Wants CSK Captaincy

The viral post presented a supposed exchange in which Samson was allegedly asked whether he would like to lead CSK because of Ruturaj Gaikwad's struggles.

It then attributed strong criticism of Gaikwad to Samson and suggested that the CSK batter was ready to take over the captaincy.

Chopra clarified that Samson never made these statements and that there is no authentic interview backing the claims.

The analyst did point out that Samson has previously spoken about being ready to take on any responsibility for CSK following his high-profile move from Rajasthan Royals. However, the specific remarks targeting Gaikwad and seeking the captaincy were fabricated.

What Did Sanju Samson Say About His Role at CSK?

Samson joined Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2026 season after being traded from Rajasthan Royals. His arrival generated significant interest because of his experience as an IPL captain and his established record as a top-order batter.

While Samson has expressed his willingness to contribute in whatever role the franchise requires, there is no genuine statement from him asking CSK to hand him the captaincy or criticising Gaikwad.

Sanju Samson Finishes as CSK's Leading Run-Scorer

Although the captaincy claim is fake, Samson enjoyed an impressive individual campaign in his first season with Chennai Super Kings.

He scored 477 runs in 14 matches at an average of 43.36 and a strike rate of 165.63, finishing as CSK's leading run-scorer.

Samson also registered two centuries, including an unbeaten 115 against Delhi Capitals, along with a half-century.

His performances made him one of the standout positives from CSK's campaign despite the team's struggles.

CSK's IPL 2026 Campaign Ends in Disappointment

CSK endured a difficult IPL 2026 season and finished eighth in the points table. The franchise managed six wins and suffered eight defeats, collecting 12 points from 14 matches.

The team also finished with a net run rate of -0.345, missing out on the playoffs once again.

Injuries disrupted CSK's balance throughout the campaign, while inconsistent performances prevented the five-time champions from securing a top-four finish.

Aakash Chopra Continues Fight Against Cricket Misinformation

Chopra's latest fact-check is part of his broader effort to tackle fake news and misleading claims circulating on social media.

The viral Samson-CSK captaincy post gained traction because it involved two high-profile players and one of the IPL's most popular franchises. However, Chopra's clarification confirms that the alleged comments about Gaikwad and the CSK captaincy were not made by Samson.

For now, there is no credible evidence that Sanju Samson has demanded the CSK captaincy or criticised Ruturaj Gaikwad. The viral interview being circulated online is fake.
