Stade des Alpes History

Stade des Alpes is a rugby and football stadium located in Grenoble, France. With a seating capacity of 20,068, it serves as the home ground for Grenoble Foot 38 (GF38) and the FC Grenoble rugby club. Situated in Paul Mistral Park, the stadium was built to replace their former venue, Stade Lesdiguières.

The stadium was constructed while GF38 was competing in the top division of French football; however, as the club dropped to the fourth division and attendance figures declined, the facility began to seem like a "white elephant" (an expensive but useless asset). Its utility increased, however, after FC Grenoble was promoted to the "Top 14" in 2012. From the 2014–15 season—once FC Grenoble had cemented its place in the Top 14—the club abandoned its traditional home, Stade Lesdiguières, and adopted Stade des Alpes as its primary home ground. Following GF38's return to the second tier of French football in 2017, the team once again began attracting large crowds.
