It is situated in Üçkuyular, in the Göztepe neighborhood of the Konak district in the Turkish city of İzmir. The stadium serves as the home ground for the İzmir-based sports club 'Göztepe S.K.' It is named after Gürsel Aksel, who played for the club throughout his entire professional career and was officially accorded the status of "Great Captain" by the club.
