BC Place is a multi-purpose stadium located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Situated on the northern shore of False Creek, it is owned and operated by the BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo), a provincial Crown corporation. The venue currently serves as the home field for the Canadian Football League (CFL) team, the BC Lions; the Major League Soccer (MLS) team, Vancouver Whitecaps FC; the annual Canada Sevens (part of the World Rugby Sevens Series); as well as the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Opened on June 19, 1983, BC Place was originally an indoor structure featuring an air-supported roof; at the time, it was the largest such roof in the world.[6][7] Following the 2010 Winter Olympics, the venue was closed for 16 months to undergo a major renovation project. The centerpiece of this renovation was the removal of the air-inflated roof and its replacement with a cable-supported, retractable roof system. Upon the completion of construction, this new stadium roof also became the largest of its kind. BC Place served as the main stadium for the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2010 Winter Paralympics, as well as the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Furthermore, it has hosted numerous other matches, including the championship match of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. The stadium is also scheduled to host several matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including knockout-stage matches.
