The Abbey Stadium, currently known as the Cledara Abbey Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a football stadium located in Cambridge, England. It has served as the home ground for Cambridge United since 1932 and currently has a maximum capacity of 7,937 spectators. Cambridge Regional College F.C. a feeder club for Cambridge United also played its home matches at the Abbey Stadium from 2006 until the club's dissolution in 2014.
The first match held at the Abbey Stadium was a friendly against a team from the Cambridge University Press on August 31, 1932. The highest-ever attendance at the ground (14,000) was also recorded during a friendly match—a game against Chelsea on May 1, 1970, which also marked the first use of the stadium's new floodlights. This was the first instance in which a record-breaking crowd gathered at an English League ground for a friendly match.
