The second season of the Women's Premier League will be held in one state of India only and the tournament is expected to start from the second or third week of February. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed this in the press conference after the WPL (Women's Premier League) auction in Mumbai on Saturday. He said, it has been decided that we will organize the tournament in February. This may happen in the second or third week of the month.
Shah told the press, as far as the venue is concerned, it will be held in only one state so that the tournament runs smoothly. This time logistics is very important for us. We can increase the venues in the third season of the tournament.
Shah said that the tournament can be held in Karnataka or Uttar Pradesh. We have a lot of venues, even in Gujarat, where we have Ahmedabad, Rajkot and after a few years Baroda may build its own stadium. Basically, the decision will be taken jointly by the franchise and BCCI. We will sit together and decide. We will tell you. The tournament will take place in one state, that is for sure.
All 22 matches of the first season of WPL were played at DY Patil and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The final of the tournament was held at the Brabourne Stadium.
Shah said that, due to India's domestic matches, we have to organize the tournament in one state. We do not want WPL to be held in the same city, but all the domestic cricket matches are as per schedule, due to which grounds are not available.
