Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami will not play in the first two Test matches against England. He has not resumed bowling since the ankle injury. There will be 5 Tests in the series starting from January 25.
A source from the Indian Cricket Board said, Shami has not even started bowling yet, he will have to go to NCA to prove his fitness. It seems difficult for him to play in the first two Test matches against England.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav may also be out of the squad. He is suffering from hernia and needs surgery. After hernia operation, it may take up to eight-nine weeks for him to practice on the field. Hopefully he will be fit during the IPL. The Indian team has not yet released the squad for the Test series against England.
Mohammed Shami did not accompany the team on the recent South Africa tour. When the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Test team, he was a part of the squad, but later the board said that Shami was out of the Test series due to not being fit. Avesh Khan got a place in the team in place of Shami.
India's 5-match series against England will start from January 25 and continue till March 11. England will come to India to play 5 tests. There will be a Test series between the two teams in India after 3 years, the last series in 2021 was won by Team India by a margin of 3-1. The first Test will be played in Hyderabad from 25 January.
This time the England team will come to India under the captaincy of Ben Stokes. Under the captaincy of Stokes, the team has defeated New Zealand, South Africa and Pakistan in test series with its aggressive batting approach.
BCCI will not rush Shami's return as the five-match Test series is being played at home. India's pitch is spin friendly. At present, Mohammad Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah will be available in the team. At the same time, India will have Axar Patel, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as spinners. Therefore, the team can go with only two specialist pacers and Mohammed Shami can be rested.
