There have been some captains in India who did a lot with their captaincy, but they could not win the World Cup title for India. If we look at the recent final match of the ODI World Cup 2023, it becomes clear that not everyone is destined to win a gold medal.
The Indian team, captained by Rohit Sharma, had won brilliantly in 10 consecutive matches in this World Cup, but in the final match, Australia defeated India by 6 wickets and won the sixth World Cup title.
Rohit Sharma is not the only captain who has not won the World Cup title, apart from him many legends have also not been able to win the World Cup title even once.

India lost the 2023 World Cup to Australia under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians to victory five times. It was important for him to prove his captaincy in the international arena. Under his captaincy, India had a tremendous campaign but it ended abruptly in the final as Australia won their sixth championship. Rohit's captaincy and batting skills were crucial in India's successful campaign. He was the second highest run scorer. Finished with 597 runs at an average of 54.27 and strike rate of 125.95.
Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid participated in three World Cup seasons, but he did not get success even once.
Rahul was the highest run scorer (461) in the 1999 World Cup. However, when the Indian team reached the World Cup final in 2003, Dravid was also a part of it, but even then the Kangaroo team won the match by 125 runs. As a head coach, Dravid could not lead India to the title in T-20 World Cup 2022 and ODI World Cup 2023.
Sourav Ganguly played the World Cup 3 times, but even once he could not win the World Cup title for India under his captaincy. Ganguly was the third highest run scorer in the 1999 World Cup. Ganguly last captained the side in the 2003 World Cup, where India lost to Australia by 125 runs.
Mohammad Azharuddin who captained India in three World Cups. He was the only Indian captain to do so. India performed well under his captaincy, but could not win the final match.
Mohammad Azharuddin last played the World Cup in 1999. In his entire cricket career he participated in 4 World Cups. In 1987, when India lost to England in the semi-finals under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, Azharuddin scored 836 runs in 25 innings in that match.
Former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath had participated in a total of 4 World Cup seasons in his cricket career, but he could not win the title for India under his captaincy. He took a total of 44 wickets in 34 matches. He gave his all in the World Cup, but still he did not get success.
Anil Kumble played the ODI World Cup a total of 4 times in his career from 1996 to 2007, but could not make India the world champion even once. The former Indian spinner had taken 31 wickets in a total of 18 matches. Kumble was India's coach for the 2017 Champions Trophy. He left this post because India had to face defeat from Pakistan.
