The 29th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 was between Afghanistan and Papua New Guinea. The match was played at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, the Papua New Guinea team set a target of 96 runs in front of the Afghan team. In response, Afghanistan achieved the target in 15.1 overs for the loss of three wickets and won the match.
The list of teams reaching the T20 World Cup 2024 Super-8 from Group-C has been revealed. Afghanistan has become the second team after host West Indies. It qualified for the Super-8 by winning its third consecutive match, while Kane Williamson's New Zealand team has been eliminated due to this victory. Afghanistan first restricted Papua New Guinea to 95 runs in the match and then won by scoring 101 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 15.1 overs. Now it has to play against host West Indies in the last league match on June 18.

With this win, Afghanistan has made it to the Super 8, while New Zealand has been eliminated. West Indies has already made it to the Super 8 from Group C. Apart from this, India, Australia and South Africa have also reached the playoffs. That is, five teams have reached the Super 8 so far and only three spots are left.

In this match, Gulbadin Naib scored an unbeaten 49 off 36 balls for Afghanistan, which included four fours and two sixes. While Mohammad Nabi remained not out on 16 runs. Wicketkeeper batsman Rahmanullah contributed 11 and Azmatullah Umarzai contributed 13 runs. For Papua New Guinea, Eli Nao, Semo Kamia and Norman Vanua took one wicket each.
