The T20 World Cup 2024 will begin on June 1, with hosts the United States playing Canada in the first match in Texas. In what appears to be a curious choice by the officials, the cricket world will witness a spectacular opening ceremony before the season's second match in Guyana, rather than the first. The curtain-raiser event is set to take place on June 2nd before the T20 World Cup match between the West Indies and Papua New Guinea.
It is the first time a cricket World Cup, although in part, will be hosted in the United States. India captain Virat Kohli, who arrived in New York on Friday evening (Indian time), stated that he never anticipated himself playing cricket in the United States at any stage in his career.
'Honestly, I never imagined we'd be playing cricket in any form in the United States (USA), but it's now a reality,' Kohli remarked in a video posted on X (previously Twitter) by the US Consulate Mumbai.

'That tells you about the growing impact of the sport in the world, and the United States is more than willing to accept the change and be probably the first ones on a global scale to accept it, in a way, with the World Cup,' he said before leaving India to join his national teammates in New York.
Kohli described the T20 World Cup in the Americas as a 'wonderful start' and hoped that it would kick off a domino effect as the game's governing body, the International Cricket Council, seeks to promote and develop cricket in other regions of the world.
'This is a terrific start. It's the best approach to get started, and it will have a significant impact. "It started as a domino effect, and I hope it continues for a long time,' he explained.
Though Kohl's India will have to wait until June 5 to launch their campaign, the event's opening ceremony will take place on June 2.

The T20 World Cup 2024 Opening Ceremony will take place on June 2, at 6:00 PM IST (8:30 AM local time). The match will start at 8:00 PM IST (10:30 AM local time).
The celebration will feature performances by many Caribbean DJs and vocalists. Top names include David Rudder, Ravi B, Erphaan Alves, DJ Ana, and Ultra.
The T20 World Cup 2024 Opening Ceremony will be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network in India and its live streaming app, Hotstar.
