Can Pakistan still qualify for Super 8

  • After the defeat against India in the 19th match of T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan is almost out of the tournament. Yes, before losing the match against India, the upset they suffered against USA is now taking a toll on the team. To reach the next round of T20 World Cup i.e. Super-8, Pakistan no longer has its own fate in its hands. Now they can only survive in the tournament by doing tricks. Pakistan's next two matches are against Canada and Ireland, if they want to remain in the race for Super-8, then first of all they have to register a big win in these two matches keeping in mind the run rate.
  • 20 teams are participating in the T20 World Cup league stage, which are divided into four groups of 5 each. Pakistan is in Group A along with India. Two teams from each group will qualify for the Super-8. Currently, apart from India, USA is the strongest contender to reach the next round from Group-A.
  • After the India vs Pakistan match, India is at the top of the T20 World Cup points table with 4 points, while host USA is at the second position with the same number of points. Pakistan has not yet opened its account in the T20 World Cup and is at the fourth position below Canada.

  • If Pakistan has to qualify for the Super-8, then first of all it will have to win both its remaining matches. After the defeat against India, Pakistan's net run rate is - 0.150, which is much less than India and USA. In such a situation, they will have to register big wins against Canada and Ireland. By winning both these matches, Babar Azam's team can get a maximum of 4 points, the same number of points India and USA have at the moment.
  • After this, Babar Azam's team will have to pray that either India or USA loses both their remaining matches. This seems difficult to happen with Team India because they have one match against America and one against Canada. Both of these are easy matches for them.
  • In such a situation, Pakistan's eyes will be on USA's match. USA will face India on June 12 and Ireland on June 14. If America wins even one of these matches, it will qualify for the next round, while despite any match being washed out due to rain, they will get a ticket to the Super-8. In such a situation, Pakistan will only have to pray for their defeat. Apart from this, there is no chance of Pakistan reaching the Super-8.
