The Sri Lankan squad has been announced for the first match of the two-game Test series against India. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has selected a 16-member squad for this match. Wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella has returned to the Sri Lankan Test team after nearly three years; the 33-year-old last played international cricket in 2023. The first Test will be played in Galle starting August 15, while the second Test will take place in Colombo from August 23.
Uncapped off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha and uncapped top-order batter Pasindu Sooriyabandara have also been included in the Sri Lankan squad. Left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka, who has played only one Test so far, has also made a comeback. Meanwhile, Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka have currently been ruled out of the first Test.
The primary reason for recalling Dickwella is the absence of Kusal Mendis from the squad; Mendis is unavailable for selection due to a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Pathum Nissanka is also sidelined as he recovers from wrist surgery. Their absence has created a vacancy in Sri Lanka's batting lineup, prompting the recall of 33-year-old Dickwella to the Test squad.
