The One Day International (ODI) series opening between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled for Tuesday, and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is ready to lead the batting attack for the home team. For the just finished T20I series between the Asian heavyweights, the seasoned Indian opener was rested. The Indian thought tank will have to make a difficult decision while selecting Rohits opening partner for the three-match series because Indian openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill have kept their spots in the ODI squad following the Sri Lanka T20Is.
Ishan Kishan will have to wait for his next opportunity, just like Suryakumar Yadav, who is presently the No. 1 T20 hitter in the world, despite scoring the quickest double century in his most recent ODI, according to Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who made this very plain on Monday.

Indian captain Rohit announced his opening partner for the three-match series during the customary news conference held prior to the first One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka on Monday. Premier batter Gill will be the Indian captains opening partner throughout the three-match series, he has disclosed. Although Gill was confirmed as Indias opening pick by Rohit, the Indian captain also noted Kishans recent batting successes. In the last ODI series between Bangladesh and India, opener Kishan produced an incredible double-century.

“Both openers (Gill and Kishan) have done really well. But looking at how both have gone through, I think it is fair that we give Gill a chance to have a fair run because in the last games Gill got a lot of runs as well. I am not going to take anything from Ishan. He has been wonderful for us. He got a double hundred and I know what it takes to get a double hundred, it is a great achievement. But just to be honest and be fair to the guys, who have done really well before that we need to give those guys enough chances as well,” Rohit told reporters on the eve of the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka.
“It is unfortunate that we wont be able to play Ishan but looking at how things have panned out for us in the last 8-9 months, looking at how the ODIs have gone through for us, it is fair to give Gill that run and he has done extremely well in that position. We will definitely try out and keep everyone in the mix and see how things pan out for us as we play a lot of games ahead,” Rohit added
