Rahul Dravid may be the coach of Indian cricket team on Sri Lanka tour, Dravid may have responsibility in the absence of Shastri.

Rahul Dravid may play the head coach of the Indian cricket team for the limited-overs series on the tour of Sri Lanka in July. Although no formal announcement has been made by the BCCI, according to the information given to ESPN Cricinfo, this responsibility may fall on the shoulders of Dravid.

Team Indias chief coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and batting coach Vikram Rathore will leave for England in early June.

They will all remain in England till September, where India has to play the final of the first World Test Championship and then a five-match Test series will be played against the host team.

Meanwhile in July, India is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series, where a three-match ODI and T20I series is proposed between India and Sri Lanka from 13 to 27 July.

On this tour, the bench strength of the Indian cricket team will have a golden opportunity to prove themselves, as the top 20 players and four standby players from England will not be part of the tour to Sri Lanka.

Dravid has been the coach of the Indian Under-19 team and India A for a long time, Dravid has been with most of the players to be selected for this tour.

Dravid is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) based in Bangalore.

According to Sri Lanka Cricket, ODIs will be played between India and Sri Lanka on July 13, 16 and 19, while the T20I series will be held on July 22, 24 and 27.

It is believed that the Indian team will reach Sri Lanka on July 5, after which they will have to remain quarantined for a week. After the tour is over, the Indian cricket team will return home on 28 July.

In view of the Covid safety standards, all competitions will be inside the bio-bubble and visitors will not be allowed to visit the grounds. The matches at Suriyaweva Ground near Hambantota and the International Stadium at Dambulla can be hosted.

Earlier India visited Sri Lanka in 2018, where Team India won the Nidahas T20 tri-series, while India last visited Sri Lanka in 2017 for the bilateral series of all formats.
