Australia's experienced cricketer Steve Smith has achieved a major achievement in his Test career. Smith broke a major record of compatriot Mark Waugh in the first Test match (AUS-NZ 1st Test) being played against New Zealand at Basin Reserve. Smith has now become the second Australian fielder to take the most catches in Test cricket. He now has 182 catches in Tests. He has achieved this feat in 108 Test matches whereas Mark Waugh had 181 catches in 128 Test matches.

In terms of taking the most catches in Test cricket for Australia, now only Ricky Ponting is ahead of Smith, who has 196 catches in 168 Test matches. Mark Taylor is at fourth place in this special list with 157 catches in 104 Test matches.

Talking about the first Test match between Australia and New Zealand, after falling behind by 204 runs in the first innings, New Zealand bowled out Australia for 164 runs in the second innings on the third day. Apart from Phillips' five wickets, Matt Henry took 3 wickets and captain Tim Southee took 2 wickets. Nathan Lyon scored 41 runs in Australia's second innings. New Zealand has now got a target of 369 runs to win the match. In response, the Kiwi team has scored 111 runs for 3 wickets by the end of the third day's play and still has to score 258 more runs to win. At the time of stumps, Rachin Ravindra was unbeaten on 56 and Daryl Mitchell was unbeaten on 12 runs.

Indian legend Rahul Dravid is at the top in terms of taking most outfield catches in international cricket. Dravid has 210 catches in his name in 164 test matches. Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka is at second place in this elite list with 205 catches in 149 matches. At the same time, Jacques Kallis of South Africa is at third place with 200 catches in 166 Test matches and Ricky Ponting of Australia is at fourth place with 196 catches in 168 Test matches. Joe Root of England is in fifth place with 192 catches in 139 Test matches.
