Pakistan cricket continues to face mounting troubles after losing the ongoing Test series against England. Amidst the team's consistently poor performance and major administrative decisions taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), former captain Misbah-ul-Haq has offered to resign from his position on the selection committee. Additionally, he has stepped down as the batting consultant at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

Following defeats in the first two matches of the series, the PCB took several significant and tough decisions on Monday:

  • Players Released: Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamir Jamal, Muhammad Awais Zafar, and Khurram Shahzad have been released from the squad and sent back home.
  • New Faces Included: Saim Ayub, Abdullah Fazal, Arafat Minhas, Saad Baig, Muhammad Randhawa, Razaullah, and Muhammad Imran Junior have been added to the squad for the third Test, starting on September 9.
  • Coaching Staff Reshuffle: Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul have been removed from their positions.
Mike Hesson has now been appointed as the head coach, and Ashley Noffke as the bowling coach, in their place.

Misbah, who retired as Pakistan's most successful Test captain in 2017, has held several key roles within the board:

  • 2019: Assumed the dual responsibility of head coach and chief selector.
  • 2020: Stepped down as selector to focus on coaching.
  • 2021: Resigned from the position of head coach as well.
  • 2023: Returned to the PCB as an advisor during Zaka Ashraf's tenure.

According to reports, the PCB has not yet accepted Misbah's resignation, but this decision has clearly exposed the internal discord within the board.
