The Lanka Premier League is a double round-robin tournament, with each team playing each other twice. This means that each team plays a total of 8 games in the league stage.
The league stage will run from July 30 to August 15. The top four teams at the end of the league stage will then progress to the playoffs. The playoffs will consist of an Eliminator, two Qualifiers, and the Final. The Final will be played on August 20, with a reserve day on August 21.
The current champion of the Lanka Premier League is the Jaffna Kings. The Kings have won all three editions of the tournament so far, first as the Jaffna Stallions in 2020, and then as the Kings in 2021 and 2022. They defeated the Colombo Stars in the 2022 final to win their third consecutive title.
The Jaffna-based franchise has a strong team with a mix of local and international players. Their batting lineup is led by the likes of Avishka Fernando, Thisara Perera, and David Miller, while their bowling attack is spearheaded by Maheesh Theekshana and Isuru Udana.
The Kings are also the favorites to win the 2023 LPL. They have a well-balanced team and they are playing at home. They will be tough to beat if they can continue their winning form.
The five teams competing in the 2023 Lanka Premier League are Lyca's Jaffna Kings, Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Aura, Galle Titans, and B-Love Kandy. They will play each other twice in a double round-robin format, with the top four teams at the end of the league stage progressing to the playoffs.
The double round-robin format means that each team will play every other team twice, once at home and once away. This will ensure that all teams play each other on an equal footing and that the best team on the day wins.
