In the 22nd match of IPL 2024, Chennai Super Kings faced Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk Stadium. In this match, CSK fast bowler Tushar Deshpande created history. He got Philip Salt caught out by Ravindra Jadeja on the very first ball of the match. Salt became the 25th player in the world to be out on the first ball of an IPL match.
This is the second time that Philip Salt has been out on the first ball of the match. Earlier in 2023 also, Mohammed Shami of Gujarat Titans had sent him to the pavilion on the very first ball of the match. Then Salt was in Delhi Capitals team. Apart from Salt, Parthiv, Kallis, McCullum, Mayank and Kohli have been out twice each on the very first ball of the match. At the same time, Salt became the fifth player of the Kolkata team to be out on the first ball of the match. Earlier, McCumal in 2009, Manoj Tiwari in 2010, Kallis in 2014, Joe Denly in 2019 have also made this unwanted record.
