KL Rahul, senior India opener, has tested positive for COVID-19. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly informed Rahul after the Boards Apex Council meeting in Mumbai on Thursday. Rahul underwent surgery recently and had resumed his training at the NCA in Bengaluru. He was named in the T20I squad for the West Indies tour and was supposed to take fitness in a couple of days. With his COVID test returning positive, it remains to be seen whether he will travel to the West Indies or not. The T20I series starts on July 29 in Tadouba.

Rahul has been out of action since the completion of IPL 2022 a day before the start of the India vs South Africa T20I series last month, the 30-year-old sustained a groin injury that sidelined him immediately. Rahul flew to Germany for his treatment and after undergoing surgery, had seemingly recovered well before getting hit by Covid-19.

Rahul is now in line to make his international return in Zimbabwe in August, should he pass his post-Covid recovery. India is set to play three ODIs on August 18, 20, and 22 in Harare, and the series will be part of the ODI Super League.
