It is expected to be a fierce match when the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) play each other in the 56th match of the IPL 2025 season on Tuesday, May 6, at Mumbai's storied Wankhede Stadium. Both teams are riding a wave of momentum and are currently tied on 14 points, making this contest crucial for their playoff aspirations.
In their previous encounter earlier this season, Gujarat emerged victorious by 36 runs in Ahmedabad, defending a solid total of 196/8 by restricting Mumbai to 160/6. However, the tables have turned since then. MI come into this game on the back of six consecutive wins and are brimming with confidence to avenge that defeat. GT, too, are coming off a convincing win and will aim to maintain their upper hand against Mumbai.
While both sides feature powerful batting units, it’s their bowling attacks that have often turned games around. As anticipation builds, here’s a look at three bowlers who could make the biggest impact with the ball in today’s clash:

Jasprit Bumrah has been a cornerstone of Mumbai’s resurgence this season. Since returning from injury, he has been in red-hot form, offering sharp spells that have consistently put opponents under pressure. In MI’s last match against Rajasthan Royals, the ace speedster delivered a brilliant performance, claiming 2 wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs.
With 11 wickets in just seven appearances this season, Bumrah has maintained an impressive average of 17.72 and an economy rate of 6.96. He will play a key role in collecting early wickets against GT's powerful top-order combination of Jos Buttler, Sai Sudharsan, and Shubman Gill. He is well-known for his deadly deliveries in the powerplay and death overs.

Prasidh Krishna, who is now wearing the Purple Cap, has been one of the IPL's most impressive players. With a remarkable economy rate of 7.48 and an average of 15.36, he has claimed 19 wickets in ten outings.
In GT’s recent match against SunRisers Hyderabad, Krishna impressed once again, scalping two crucial wickets and conceding just 19 runs in four overs. His previous encounter with MI saw him register brilliant figures of 2/18, earning him the Player of the Match award.

With the Wankhede expected to assist quicks early on, Prasidh’s ability to extract bounce and movement could prove decisive, especially against the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, and Suryakumar Yadav.

New Zealand’s Trent Boult has been in scintillating form for Mumbai this season. With 16 wickets from 11 games at an average of 21 at an economy rate of 8.80, he tops their wicket-taking chart. Alongside Bumrah, Boult has formed one of the most formidable new-ball partnerships in the tournament.
In the previous outing against Rajasthan Royals, Boult ripped through their top order, grabbing three wickets in just over two overs. His early breakthroughs, particularly in the powerplay, could once again tilt the game in MI’s favor.
Boult’s challenge will be to dismantle GT’s top three—an area where the Titans have built most of their success this season.
With both MI and GT in excellent form and neck-and-neck on the points table, today’s clash could very well be decided by which bowling unit steps up.
