IPL 2025 Mega Auction, There will be no mega auction for IPL 2025

The BCCI has started preparations for the auction to be held before IPL 2025. A meeting was held between BCCI officials and IPL team owners on Wednesday, in which all the teams were heard on many issues. In the meeting with the officials, opinions were divided on issues like mega auction and impact player rules. Let us tell you that a mega auction has been planned for the upcoming 18th season, in view of which the BCCI had called a meeting at its headquarters. After the meeting, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed this.

IPL Owners- BCCI Meet

After this special meeting, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a release that the franchise owners submitted feedback on player rules and other business aspects including central merchandising, licensing and gaming. The BCCI will now place these recommendations before the IPL Governing Council and evaluate them.

No more than five players will be allowed to be retained

Jay Shah further said that teams will not be allowed to retain more than five players and a Right to Match (RTM) card can be used. The RTM card gives a franchise the opportunity to match the last bid of a player from the previous season. The BCCI secretary later confirmed to the media that the board will soon take a decision on all the points discussed.

Team owners or co-owners who attended the meeting included Shah Rukh Khan (Kolkata Knight Riders), Kavya Malan (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Ness Wadia (Punjab Kings), Sanjiv Goenka and his son Shashwat (Lucknow Super Giants), KK Grandha and Parth Jindal (Delhi Capitals).

Manoj Badale and Ranjit Barthakur from Rajasthan Royals, Prathamesh Mishra from Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kasi Viswanathan and Rupa Gurunath from Chennai Super Kings, Amit Soni from Gujarat Titans, while Mumbai Indians owners participated online.

There was a dispute between Shahrukh and Ness Wadia

There was a heated exchange between Nesh Wadia and Shah Rukh on the issue of mega auction. However, Delhi Capitals director Parth Jindal said that no real result came out of the meeting as the teams put forth their views on all the issues. Jindal said that no real result came out. It was just to listen to the different views of all the owners and the BCCI has listened to us and now they will tell us all the rules. Hopefully by the end of August we will know the rules for the next season.

BCCI statement

BCCI issued a statement after this meeting and said- Franchise owners have given feedback on many commercial aspects including regulation and licensing of players, gaming. BCCI will now take the matter to the IPL Governing Council for IPL players regulation.
