A report in Times of India has claimed that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer may miss the opening matches of the upcoming IPL 2024 starting from March 22. This report claims that after playing a brilliant inning of 95 runs in the Ranji Trophy 2024 final against Vidarbha, the Mumbai star batsman's old back injury has once again resurfaced.

Shreyas Iyer had surgery for his back injury in the year 2023, and now the same injury may rule him out of the first few matches of IPL 2024. A source was quoted by The Times of India: “This is not good news at all. This is the same back injury, which has worsened. There is every possibility that he will not take the field on the fifth day of the Ranji Trophy final. He is in danger of missing the initial matches of the IPL.”
Shreyas Iyer suffered back spasms during his brilliant inning of 95, and was checked twice by the Mumbai team physio. He also did not take the field for Mumbai on Wednesday, March 13, and reports claimed that he would miss the remaining matches of the Ranji Trophy 2024 final.

According to media reports, the old injury of the 29-year-old player has once again flared up, due to which it is considered difficult for him to play in the upcoming IPL season. There is news that he may be out of the initial matches of IPL 2024. Recently he was dropped from the BCCI central contract. He was punished for not playing domestic cricket.
Shreyas Iyer gave an explosive performance in the Mumbai vs Vidarbha Ranji final being played at Wankhede Stadium. He played a brilliant inning of 95 runs in 111 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes. However, he missed converting this innings into a century. In this match, Iyer took the news of Vidarbha bowlers along with Musheer Khan. Iyer had scored only seven runs in the first innings.
