When the West Indies team came to India in late 2018, they played a T20 match in Chennai. Batting first in this match, the West Indies team scored 181 runs for the loss of three wickets. Wicketkeeper batsman Nicholas Pooran, batting at number five, scored an unbeaten 53 runs in 25 balls.

Chasing the target of 182 runs against West Indies, India won the match by six wickets. The 182 runs scored by India is the highest score of any team in T20 International on this ground. For India, opener Shikhar Dhawan played an innings of 92 runs in 62 balls. Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant also contributed 58 runs in 38 balls. Keemo Paul took the highest two wickets for West Indies by giving 32 runs in four overs.
