Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is gearing up for a crucial match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The team is making every possible effort to secure a spot in the playoffs. Their performance this season has been mixed; while some players have delivered stellar performances at key moments, their bowling unit has also shown signs of improvement in recent matches.

CSK currently sits in eighth place on the IPL 2026 points table with four points. Their campaign has suffered a setback due to injuries to several key players. They are eagerly awaiting the return of their star player, MS Dhoni. Meanwhile, their talented young player, Ayush Mhatre, also remains sidelined due to injury. Following Khaleel Ahmed's exit from IPL 2026 due to injury, CSK inducted Mukesh Choudhary into the Playing XI. The team had retained Mukesh for ₹30 lakh. His return has provided much-needed balance to CSK's pace bowling attack.

Why won't Mukesh Choudhary be able to play in the MI vs CSK match?

Just ahead of a crucial match in IPL 2026, tragic news has emerged: CSK has confirmed that the mother of fast bowler Mukesh Choudhary has passed away. Sharing a heartfelt message, the franchise has extended its condolences to the player and his family during this difficult time. Mukesh's mother, Prem Devi, passed away in Mumbai following a prolonged illness. She had been undergoing treatment at the Tata Hospital. According to *Dainik Bhaskar*, immediately after CSK's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) concluded, Mukesh departed for his hometown—Bhilwara, Rajasthan. There, alongside his elder brother, he performed Prem Devi's last rites.

Mukesh Choudhary had recently made a brilliant comeback to the playing XI. The left-arm fast bowler was given an opportunity in the match against SRH, where he made an immediate impact with his bowling, claiming the wickets of Travis Head and Ishan Kishan. It is expected that Mukesh will not play in the upcoming match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. His absence comes as a major blow to CSK. According to reports, he may take a brief break before rejoining the team.

According to OneIndia, MS Dhoni is in touch with Mukesh during this difficult time. Just recently, he visited the hospital and met with Mukesh's mother as well. Due to a calf injury, Dhoni has not been able to play any matches so far this season, although he did practice with the team recently.

Given Mukesh's unavailability, it is likely that Gurjapneet Singh will be included in the Playing XI. Consequently, CSK will now consider making some adjustments to their bowling strategy for this upcoming crucial match.
