Amir himself has always openly expressed his desire to play in the world's biggest cricket league, the IPL. According to a report by India Today, Mohammad Amir had previously stated:

“By next year, I might get the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if the opportunity arises, why not? I will play in the IPL.”

This is not the first time that a player of Pakistani origin could be seen playing in the IPL by virtue of holding British citizenship.

Prior to this, former all-rounder Azhar Mahmood had achieved this feat.

  • Azhar Mahmood's Journey: He last represented Pakistan in 2007, after which he acquired British citizenship.
  • Entry into the IPL: Ahead of the 2012 season, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) inducted him into their squad.
  • Stellar Performance: Over the course of two seasons, he played 22 matches, scoring 382 runs and taking 29 wickets. Subsequently, in 2015, he also appeared in a match for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
