Sri Lanka's opening batsman Pathum Nissanka played a stormy innings against Afghanistan on Friday (February 9). He played an unbeaten inning of 210 runs in Pallekele. Nissanka became the first batsman for Sri Lanka to score a double century in ODIs. He has become the first Sri Lankan to do so not only in ODI but also in List-A cricket. He also broke the record of his former captain and explosive opener Sanath Jayasuriya. Nissanka has now made a record of former captain Kumar Sangakkara in his name. Thanks to Nissanka's double century, Sri Lanka scored 381 runs for three wickets in 50 overs.

Nissanka became the batsman with the highest innings in ODI for Sri Lanka. Jayasuriya was in first place in this matter. He played an inning of 189 runs against India in the year 2000. Nissanka broke his record in front of him. Jayasuriya was also happy to see the innings of this young opener and he stood up and applauded. Nissanka hit 20 fours and eight sixes in his 139-ball innings. His strike rate was 151.08.

Pathum Nissanka became the batsman to play the greatest innings on Sri Lankan soil. He left Kumar Sangakkara behind in this matter. Sangakkara scored 169 runs against South Africa in 2013. Ibrahim Zadran of Afghanistan is at number three. He scored 162 runs against Sri Lanka in 2022. At the same time, in 2023, Rahmanullah Gurbaz of the Afghan team had scored 151 runs against Pakistan. In 2009, India's Gautam Gambhir played an inning of 150 runs against Sri Lanka.

Nissanka achieved a big achievement

Nissanka scored more than 150 runs in his 50th ODI innings. He is the first batsman in the world to do so. Earlier, the record of scoring the most runs in the 50th innings of ODI was jointly held by Ireland's Andy Balbirnie and former Australia captain Ricky Ponting. Balbirnie had scored unbeaten 145 runs against Afghanistan in 2019. At the same time, Ponting had scored 145 runs against Zimbabwe in 1998.
