Sri Lanka suffered a major setback on Friday (July 3) following their defeat in the first Test against the West Indies. Sri Lanka Cricket announced that four players would be unavailable for the second Test. Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, Ramesh Mendis, and Pathum Nissanka have all been ruled out of the second Test in Antigua due to injury or illness. The second Test is scheduled to begin on July 3.
Nissanka had played in the first Test, which the West Indies won by an innings and 217 runs. Opening the batting alongside Nishan Madushka, he scored 2 and 3 runs. According to Sri Lanka Cricket, he experienced persistent wrist pain after the first Test and was advised to undergo surgery. He traveled to the UK on June 30 two days after the conclusion of the Test for the procedure.
