Kolkata will host a special El Clásico exhibition match between Real Madrid Legends and Barcelona Legends on November 25, 2026, at Salt Lake Stadium. West Bengal sports minister Indranil Khan announced the fixture on social media, bringing one of football's most famous rivalries back into the spotlight for Indian fans.
The announcement has generated anticipation among supporters who grew up watching the Spanish giants compete for domestic and European honours. Unlike a regular El Clásico involving the current first teams, this exhibition is expected to feature former players associated with the two clubs.
However, fans should wait for the official squad announcement before expecting particular stars to participate. The initial announcement did not identify the players, confirm ticket prices or provide the kick-off time.
Which Players Could Feature in the Kolkata Legends Match?

The biggest question surrounding the November fixture is which former Barcelona and Real Madrid stars will travel to Kolkata.
The clubs have featured generations of celebrated footballers, including Xavi, Rivaldo, Carles Puyol, Luís Figo and Fernando Morientes. Several of these names were involved in the previous Legends Faceoff between the teams in India, making them familiar to fans following the upcoming event.
However, their participation in the Kolkata match has not been confirmed. The previous event's line-ups should not be treated as the confirmed squads for November 25.
For supporters, the appeal lies in the opportunity to see former stars return to the pitch and revisit the rivalry through a different generation of players. The final line-ups will determine which familiar faces fans can expect to see at Salt Lake Stadium.
Why the El Clásico Rivalry Matters to Football Fans?
El Clásico refers to the historic rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Their meetings have produced memorable matches, major trophies and defining moments in Spanish football.
The rivalry is about more than two teams competing for points. It also brings together contrasting footballing identities, passionate fan communities and generations of players who have shaped the sport.
For Indian fans, a legends match offers a different experience from watching the clubs on television. Former players can bring back memories of iconic goals, crucial saves and famous encounters, even though an exhibition match is different from a competitive fixture.
Kolkata is a fitting setting for the occasion. Football has a strong following in the city, and hosting the two teams' legends would give supporters another opportunity to connect with international football.
Kolkata's Busy Football Calendar in October 2026
The upcoming exhibition follows two high-profile international friendlies involving the Indian men's football team at Salt Lake Stadium.
India faced Brazil on October 3 and Uruguay on October 6, 2026. Those fixtures brought international attention to the venue before the announcement of the Barcelona and Real Madrid legends' encounter.
The November match would add another major football occasion to Kolkata's calendar, this time centred on club nostalgia rather than international competition.
It also recalls the 2025 Legends Faceoff held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Barcelona Legends were led by Carles Puyol, while Luís Figo captained Real Madrid Legends. Real Madrid won that encounter 2-0, according to contemporary coverage of the event.
Whether the November fixture produces a similar result remains to be seen.
When Will Tickets and the Final Squads Be Announced?
As of October 13, 2026, the announced date and venue are the key confirmed details. Ticket-sale dates, prices, kick-off time, broadcast arrangements and the complete player lists still need confirmation through official announcements.
Fans should follow updates from the event organisers and relevant official channels before making travel or ticket-purchase plans. Names circulating online should not be treated as confirmed participants unless organisers verify them.
The main attraction is clear: Kolkata is set to host a legends' meeting between two of world football's most recognisable rivals. The next major update will be the announcement of the players taking part.
