The 31-year-old Sarvesh Kushare secured second place in the final by clearing a height of 2.25 meters. Prior to him, Tejaswin Shankar had made history by winning a bronze medal at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games; however, Sarvesh went a step further by clinching the country's first silver medal in this event.
CWG High Jump Countback Rule Explained
- Gold Medal: Both Sarvesh and Jamaica's Romaine Beckford successfully cleared the 2.25-meter mark. Subsequently, both failed to clear the 2.28-meter height.
- Countback Rule: Since Beckford had fewer failed attempts compared to Sarvesh, he was awarded the gold medal.
- Silver Medal: Sarvesh had to settle for the silver medal based on the countback rule.
- Bronze Medal: England's Jack Kimani won the bronze medal with a jump of 2.20 meters, while India's Adarsh Ram (2.15 meters) finished in fifth place.

Sarvesh has been in excellent form throughout his career recently:
- National Record: Sarvesh recently set a new national record by clearing a height of 2.31 meters at the National Inter-State Championships held in Bhubaneswar.
- Monaco Diamond League: Just before the Commonwealth Games (CWG), he secured third place at the Monaco Diamond League with a jump of 2.26 meters. He became the fourth Indian athlete to reach the podium at a Diamond League event.

"This is my first medal, and my first at a major international tournament. The Asian Games and Commonwealth Games are crucial stepping stones in preparation for the Olympics. My primary goal now is to win an Olympic medal. Alongside that, I aim to win a gold medal for India at the Asian Games."
