Shreyas Iyer's retention talks with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could not be finalized this season. But before the mega auction, he has sent a message to the franchises by scoring a double century
India's middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer is neither a part of India's Test team nor a part of Team India in T20 format these days. But Iyer, who is playing domestic cricket, is in great form. After scoring a century in his last match, he has now scored a double century against Orissa. By scoring this century, he has given a strong message to the Indian team selectors and IPL franchises about his form. Iyer played an important innings of 233 runs while batting at number 5 against Orissa. In this innings, he hit 24 fours and 9 sixes. Due to his innings, Mumbai has declared its first innings at 602/4. He is playing only in the ODI format for Team India and was last seen in Team India's jersey on the Sri Lanka tour.
In February this year, he was also a part of the Indian Test team, when he played the Visakhapatnam Test against England. But since then he is not seen in the Test team as well. After India's domestic season, Team India is now leaving for Australia tour, where it has to play the 5 Test match Border Gavaskar Trophy. But Iyer has not got a place in this team either.
The auction for the next season of IPL is to be held on 24th and 25th November this month, where Iyer seems to be in the race to become the most expensive Indian player. Meanwhile, if he gets a place in the Indian Test team in the 7 week long tour of Australia, then Iyer is also ready for that. Apart from Iyer, Siddhesh Lad (169 runs) has played a brilliant innings for Mumbai in this innings. He shared a 354 run partnership with Iyer for the fourth wicket.
