Rafael Márquez is considered one of Mexico's most successful footballers. During his international career, he played 148 matches for the country and captained the team in several major tournaments. Since July 2024, he had been serving as an assistant coach on Javier Aguirre's staff. Now, he has been entrusted with full responsibility for the national team for the first time.
Javier Aguirre's third tenure lasted approximately two years, during which he led the team to significant successes. Under his leadership, Mexico won the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the Nations League titles in 2025. During his term, the team played a total of 50 matches, recording 33 wins, nine draws, and eight losses.
