India has not limited itself to just defending but has also retaliated. In Operation Sindoor, Indian armed forces struck deep into Pakistani territory and destroyed the Chinese-supplied HQ-9 air defence unit in Lahore and damaged key radar infrastructure.
The befitting reply that India is giving to Pakistan today has not been prepared in a few days but it has taken years. Since 2014, the Modi government has systematically advanced India's air defense structure. Many developments have been made for this, some of which are as follows-
- A Rs 35,000 crore deal for 5 S-400 Triumph squadrons was signed in 2018, of which three squadrons are now operating along the borders with China and Pakistan.
- Deployment of Barak-8 medium-range surface-to-air missiles (MR-SAM), a $2.5 billion deal struck with Israel in 2017, is now actively protecting forward-line bases like Bhatinda.
- Indigenous Akash missile batteries and counter-drone systems developed by DRDO.
- Man Portable Counter Drone System (MPCDS) to jam and disable hostile UAVs to be installed in 2024.
Operation Sindoor also used suicide drones ordered in 2021, which were manufactured in India. These drones carried out simultaneous, precision attacks in various sectors, thereby outsmarting Pakistan's security system.
In addition, Israeli-origin Harop drones—now locally manufactured—were deployed to target and destroy air defense assets in Karachi and Lahore.
These platforms, combined with the strategic deployment of Rafale fighter jets equipped with SCALP and HAMMER missiles, demonstrated India's ability to project power with surgical precision. It is worth noting that the Modi government has been working very seriously in defense matters and as a result, today we are gaining an upper hand over Pakistan. Apart from this, India today operates a technology-driven airspace defense network that is capable of detecting, intercepting and destroying threats.
