Important Dates
- Repolling Date: May 21, 2026
- Date of Results: May 24, 2026
- Total Booths: Voting will be conducted again at all 285 polling stations.
Current Situation
The results of the previous voting are no longer valid. Repolling for the entire Assembly constituency will take place on May 21, 2026. The actual winner will be determined on May 24, 2026, following the vote counting. Currently, the contest is considered to be primarily between Jahangir Khan (TMC) and Debangshu Panda (BJP).
In Simply words: the data from the previous voting is 'sealed' and 'nullified,' so it is not possible to say who was leading on that day.
Which party rigged the voting?
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI) report, no single party has been named for the rigging; instead, "unknown miscreants" have been held responsible.
The primary allegations and incidents are as follows:
- Booth Capturing: Crowds of outsiders forcibly entered and took control of several polling stations.
- EVM Tampering: Miscreants damaged and vandalized the voting machines.
- Violence: Polling personnel and security forces were attacked, bringing the voting process to a halt.
- Political Allegations and Counter-allegations: At the grassroots level, both the TMC and the BJP have accused each other of rigging the polls and intimidating voters. However, the Election Commission has not officially held any specific party responsible; rather, it has annulled the election on the grounds that the integrity of the entire electoral process was compromised. Consequently, taking strict action, the Commission has ordered a re-poll across the entire constituency.
Note: The main candidates this time (2026) include Jahangir Khan (TMC), Debangshu Panda (BJP), and Abdur Razzak Molla (INC).
