Congress on Ram Mandir: The issue regarding the alleged misuse of donations received for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir is rapidly escalating. The Congress has intensified direct political pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over this matter. On Thursday (July 2, 2026), Congress General Secretary (Organization) and Public Accounts Committee Chairman K.C. Venugopal wrote to the Prime Minister, demanding a probe into the entire affair under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

What did Venugopal say in the letter to PM Modi?

In the letter, Venugopal stated that the theft of donations meant for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir has shaken the entire nation. Lakhs of devotees had donated their hard-earned money in the name of Lord Ram, but this trust has been betrayed.

He noted that following the Supreme Court's verdict, the Ayodhya Ram Mandir was constructed on public land, and the Government of India had established a public trust to manage its affairs. Therefore, the administration and accountability of the temple fall entirely within the jurisdiction of the Central Government.

Warnings about the theft were issued earlier but ignored: Venugopal

Congress leader KC Venugopal alleged that several warnings regarding the alleged theft had been received from time to time but were ignored. He claims that those responsible deliberately failed to take action, thereby facilitating the alleged embezzlement of crores of rupees.

Congress raises questions about the SIT probe—

In its letter, the Congress has also questioned the SIT investigation conducted so far. Venugopal stated that the actions taken to date are merely a charade intended to mislead, and it appears the objective is to shield the main accused.

The Congress maintains that this is not merely a case of financial irregularity but a serious matter involving the political and economic exploitation of religious faith. The party has demanded that the Prime Minister order an immediate and impartial inquiry into the entire matter under the supervision of the Supreme Court, so that the truth may be revealed and action taken against the guilty.
