Who is Lal Krishna Advani?
Lal Krishna Advani, born in Karachi, came to India after partition. He settled in Bombay. He joined the RSS in 1941 at the age of fourteen. In 1951, he became a member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which was founded by BJP icon Syama Prasad Mukherjee. Jan Sangh was the political precursor of BJP.
Advani became a member of the Rajya Sabha for the first time in 1970. He completed the tenure of Rajya Sabha four times till 1989. After the victory he became the Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha for the first time in 1977. Janata Party in general elections.
He is one of the founding members of BJP. He was the president of the party three times. In 1989 he became a Lok Sabha member for the first time. When Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government was formed in 1999, Advani served as Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.
