Gaikwad was suffering from blood cancer for the last one year. He was admitted to King's College Hospital in London. Sandeep Patil and another former Indian batsman Dilip Vengsarkar met him. After meeting him, both of them asked BCCI to help Anshuman. After this, the board provided Rs 1 crore for the treatment of Anshuman Gaikwad.
Anshuman is a former opening batsman of India. He played cricket for India from 1975 to 1987. During this time, Anshuman played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India. He was also the coach of Team India. He took up this responsibility twice. For the first time, he was the coach of the team from 1997 to 1999. After this, he again became the coach of the team in 2000.
