After a goalless first-half, Mexico took the lead through Henry Martin, two minutes after the restart. Five minutes later, Luis Chavez curled home a sensational free-kick to give Mexico hopes of qualification. But that came crashing down when Salem Al-Dawsari scored an injury-time goal against the run of play.
Gerardo Martino's side pushed for the goal that could still take them through, but it wasn't to be on the night & El Tri would bow out on goal difference.
