It is one of Australia's most renowned sporting events. Players from various nations participate in the tournament, contributing to the growing global popularity of the T20 format. The opening match of BBL 2026–27 will be played in India. The season's first game is scheduled for December 12, 2026, at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The final match will take place on January 26, 2027, meaning the tournament will span a period of more than a month.
Perth Scorchers won the BBL 2025-26 season and will play against former champions Melbourne Renegades in the opening match of the 2026-27 season. This match will be played in Chennai on December 12.
