Martin had a superb debut season for Northern Districts when he bagged 37 wickets in the 1999-00 season. He also bagged 7 wickets for Auckland in the 2010-11 season. Martin is no mug with the bat as he boasts of a score of unbeaten 113 for New Zealand A against Sri Lanka A batting at number 10. In 2012, the uncapped 32-year old Martin was called-up to New Zealand’s Test squad for their series against South Africa.
