Neetu David Appointed Head of Scouting for UP Warriorz; Major Responsibility Ahead of WPL 2027

Ahead of the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) 2027 season, UP Warriorz has made a significant change to its support staff. Former Indian spin legend Neetu David has been appointed as the team's new 'Head of Scouting.' She will replace Rajiv Datta in this role.

The 48-year-old Neetu David will join the coaching staff led by Head Coach Abhishek Nayar.

Neetu David's Illustrious Career

  • International Record: During her 13-year international career spanning 1995 to 2008, she played 10 Tests and 97 ODIs, claiming a total of 182 wickets.
  • Historic Record: Neetu David still holds the world record for the best bowling figures in a single innings of women's Test cricket. She took 8 wickets for 53 runs (8/53) against the West Indies during the 1995 Jamshedpur Test.
  • Experience: She has also served as the Chairperson of Selectors for the Indian women's cricket team.

In this new role, Neetu David will be responsible for scouting new and emerging talent from India's domestic cricket circuit and bringing them into the UP Warriorz fold.

UP Warriorz Eyeing a Turnaround

UP Warriorz's performance across the four seasons of the WPL has been quite disappointing. The team has won only 12 of the 33 matches played so far. After reaching the playoffs in the inaugural season (2023), the team failed to progress beyond the group stage in the subsequent three seasons and finished at the bottom of the points table in the last two seasons. The team hopes that Neetu David's talent-spotting abilities can help turn their fortunes around in the upcoming auction and season.
