Ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction, all franchises have announced their respective retention and release lists. The WPL 2027 auction is scheduled to be held on October 28 at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi, while the upcoming season of the tournament is expected to take place from January 14 to February 7.

Teams have made several unexpected changes to their squads prior to the auction. The decision by Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and UP Warriorz to release certain star Indian players has left cricket fans and experts astonished.

1. Gunalan Kamalini (Mumbai Indians)

Mumbai Indians' decision to release young wicketkeeper-batter Gunalan Kamalini is quite surprising, especially since the franchise had previously shown faith in her by retaining her before the last mega auction.

• Recent Performance: Kamalini has been in excellent form recently. She was part of the Indian women's team that won the Asia Cup and was also included in the squad that clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games held in Japan in September 2026.

2. Sneh Rana (Delhi Capitals)

Delhi Capitals have released experienced Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana into the auction pool.

3. Shweta Sehrawat (UP Warriorz)

UP Warriorz's decision to release Shweta Sehrawat is considered the biggest move on this list. Shweta had been specifically retained by the franchise prior to the previous major auction.

• WPL Record: Shweta has scored 307 runs in 26 innings for UP Warriorz in the WPL. However, she was unable to consistently secure a spot in the team's playing XI.
