Yashasvi Jaiswal:The 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season has commenced, with the first round of group-stage matches now concluded. This opening round featured several Indian Test stars, who turned out for their respective domestic teams; however, most of them were unable to make a significant impact.

Among them was India’s star opening batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who played in Mumbai’s first match. It proved to be an underwhelming outing for him, and he has now stepped away from the squad for the second match.

After a poor showing in the first match, Yashasvi is now out of the squad

In this Ranji Trophy season, Mumbai placed in Elite Group D faced Chandigarh in their opening match. The game was held at Mumbai’s home ground, Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai secured a comfortable victory, winning by an innings and 155 runs.

However, the match did not go well for Yashasvi Jaiswal. He only got the opportunity to bat in a single innings, and in that, he failed to even open his account.

Mumbai’s next match is against Himachal Pradesh. This match will be played in Bilaspur, Himachal, and will run from October 18 to October 21. However, Yashasvi will not be part of this match; he has left the team. Young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been added to the squad in his place. But why did Jaiswal leave the team after just one match?

Why Yashasvi left the team

In reality, he was not dropped; rather, Jaiswal had to leave the team due to unavoidable circumstances. This is because he is now heading straight to New Zealand, where he is part of the India A squad.

In New Zealand, he will play in unofficial Test matches for India A. A three-match Test series between India A and New Zealand A is set to begin on October 24. Jaiswal is part of the squad for all three matches and is expected to play in at least two of them.

This is the reason why Jaiswal could only play in one match. Additionally, Ayush Mhatre has also left the team due to an injury; he has been replaced by Suryansh Shedge.

As for the India A side, it is not just Jaiswal players like KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Sudharsan, Akash Deep, and Dhruv Jurel are also departing from their respective teams to head to New Zealand.
