Although Rohit Sharma's century could not secure a victory for Team India in the third ODI, his magnificent batting won the hearts of fans. He played an innings of 138 runs off 110 balls, featuring 17 fours and 5 sixes.
This is being hailed as one of the most crucial innings of his career; amidst talk of him being dropped from the team, he silenced his critics with this stellar performance.
However, what Rohit Sharma did after scoring this century is quite interesting. According to reports, he quietly slipped out through a back exit after the Lord's ODI concluded. Let us tell you what happened.
Where did Rohit Sharma slip away to?
After scoring a century, Rohit Sharma attended the team meeting, and two hours later, he quietly slipped out through the back exit. According to a report by senior sports journalist Vimal Kumar, 400 to 500 fans were waiting for Rohit outside the Indian team's hotel, but the player managed to leave unnoticed via the rear exit.
Rohit was heading to visit relatives in London. He told Vimal Kumar that he wanted to spend a few days with his family; that is why he slipped out quietly. He was dressed casually in shorts, a T-shirt, and slippers.
He did not book a car or a taxi either; instead, he traveled to his relatives' place using the London Tube the city's train network.
Rohit Sharma's Record-Breaking Century
Rohit Sharma played a record-breaking innings at Lord's. He became the first Indian cricketer to score an ODI century at the historic Lord's ground. Furthermore, he became the player with the highest number of ODI centuries scored on foreign soil.
He surpassed the record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who had scored seven centuries in the UAE. Rohit Sharma has smashed eight ODI centuries in England. He has scored centuries at venues including Edgbaston, Bristol, The Oval, Old Trafford, Southampton, Trent Bridge, and Lord's.
The only player to have scored more ODI centuries in England is Joe Root, who has hit ten; however, Root achieved this feat over 93 innings, whereas Rohit accomplished it in just 30 innings.
Will Rohit now be dropped from Team India?
The biggest question now is whether Rohit Sharma will be dropped from Team India. Despite scoring a century at Lord's, do the selectors not want to give him a chance in the ODI World Cup?
Reports suggest that the selectors have made up their minds to give a younger player the opportunity in Rohit's place, and that Rohit will not be considered for the 2027 World Cup.
