Commonwealth Games 2026India concluded its 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign by winning 39 medals and finishing fourth in the medal tally. Boxers played a pivotal role in this successful run; of the 39 medals won by India, 10 were secured thanks to the boxers' efforts and notably, seven of those were gold.
While the Indian boxers delivered their best-ever performance at the Commonwealth Games, what about the hard work of those who made this success possible? We are referring to the support staff, who have not received their salaries for three months.
Boxing Team's Support Staff Haven't Received Salaries for 3 Months
According to a report by Amar Ujala 12 members of the Indian boxing team's support staff have not received their salaries for three months. These are the individuals who worked tirelessly from the training camp at NIS Patiala to preparations in Belfast—to ready the boxers for the Commonwealth Games (CWG). The list of unpaid staff includes Head Coach C. Kuttappa, a recipient of the Dronacharya Award.
In addition to the head coach, other support staff members awaiting their salaries include team doctors Jitin Krishnan and Yesha Patel, psychologist Maithili Bhupatani, video analysts Nitin Kumar and Sanjit Sharma, as well as three male and three female massage therapists.
What is the salary of the boxing team's support staff?
First, the question arises: what is the salary of the Indian boxing team's support staff? According to reports, a coach earns between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹2 lakh, while a doctor receives ₹1.5 lakh.
Massage therapists earn between ₹40,000 and ₹50,000. Psychologists receive a salary of ₹1 lakh, and video analysts earn up to ₹80,000.
Failure to receive salaries could impact Asian Games preparations
According to reports, some members of the boxing team's support staff have appealed to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to clarify the situation. They have stated that if the salary issue is not resolved soon, it will impact the national camp scheduled to begin at NIS Patiala on August 10 for Asian Games preparations, making it difficult for them to participate.
