The West Indies Cricket Board has announced a pay cut for players on the men's team. The board stated that, due to financial losses, it will reduce players' salaries by 25 percent in upcoming contracts.
Major Setback for West Indies Players
The West Indies Cricket Board's decision regarding salary cuts will be effective from October 2026 to September 2027. While international cricketers will receive contracts for a one-year term, the contracts for domestic cricketers have been reduced from 12 months to 7 months.
Cricket West Indies has announced that it incurred a loss of approximately ₹200 crore in 2025, necessitating the decision to cut players' salaries. In addition to salary cuts, the board has postponed the Men's Super50 tournament and the Women's T20 tournament as cost-saving measures.
How much salary do West Indies players receive?
There is no official written record regarding the exact salaries of West Indies players; however, according to a report, a West Indies cricketer playing all three formats earns $300,000 (USD). Meanwhile, a player competing in two formats receives an annual salary of $240,000, and a player participating in only one format earns between $150,000 and $200,000.
The West Indies board also offers development contracts, ranging from $60,000 to $100,000. Currently, all players will receive 25 percent less pay. In addition to annual contracts, players receive match fees for Test, ODI, and T20 matches. West Indies players are paid $5,000 for a Test match, $2,300 for an ODI, and $1,700 for a T20 match.
