VVS Laxman Breaks Silence on Declining Team India Head Coach Position: Former Indian batting legend VVS Laxman has made a significant revelation regarding his career while at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Laxman disclosed that he was offered the role of head coach of the Indian men's cricket team following the 2023 ODI World Cup, an offer he declined due to personal reasons.

Declined due to personal reasons: Speaking to reporters, Laxman mentioned that he was in line to become the head coach in 2023 but could not accept the position due to family and personal commitments. He met twice with the then-BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who understood his situation.
Rahul Dravid gets an extension: Following Laxman's decision, Rahul Dravid's tenure was extended. Under Dravid's guidance, India clinched the historic 2024 T20 World Cup trophy.
Gautam Gambhir's entry: When the search for a new coach began again in May 2024, Laxman was once more in the running. However, the board ultimately appointed Gautam Gambhir as the head coach. During this period, Laxman served as the interim coach for assignments such as the tour of Zimbabwe.

Laxman Denies Chief Selector Rumors to Replace Ajit Agarkar

Recent media reports claimed that the BCCI was considering handing the responsibility of Chief Selector to Laxman, replacing Ajit Agarkar. However, Laxman has categorically dismissed these speculations. He clarified that he currently has no intention of joining the selection committee or becoming the head coach.
Laxman Extends Stay at BCCI Centre of Excellence for Two Years
Laxman has decided to continue serving as the head of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for another two years. He stated that the board and Secretary Devajit Saikia are granting him complete freedom to work according to his vision. Their entire focus is currently on strengthening the CoE's framework, protocols, and sports science processes.
