IND vs WI ODI:Virat Kohli has once again demonstrated that he is far from satisfied and still has plenty of cricket left in him. At least until the 2027 World Cup, he is unlikely to let bowlers rest easy. The most recent proof of this came during the first ODI against the West Indies, where he scored the 55th century of his ODI career.
The West Indies bowlers had no answer to Kohli's batting; he smashed numerous sixes against both pacers and spinners, ultimately reaching his century on the strength of those very shots.
Kohli Shines Again in Thiruvananthapuram
The first match of the ODI series in Thiruvananthapuram witnessed three centuries. West Indies opener Justin Greaves set the tone by scoring his maiden century. Subsequently, Indian captain Shubman Gill completed a commanding century his tenth in the format.
However, Virat Kohli’s century overshadowed them all; he smashed his second consecutive ODI century at this venue, his tenth against the West Indies, the 55th of his ODI career, and his 86th in international cricket.
Chasing a target of 296 set by the West Indies, Kohli arrived at the crease following an opening partnership of over 70 runs; his first boundary was a six. While that initial six didn't come off a perfectly clean connection, every subsequent shot he sent across the boundary was magnificent.
Remarkably, Kohli brought up his half-century with a six and then smashed his century off just 74 balls with another six. This marked the first time in his ODI career that he reached a century in such a manner.
Didn't stop until victory was secured; set a record for sixes
Kohli wasn't satisfied with just a century; true to form, he was determined to see the team through to the target before finishing his innings and he did exactly that. After reaching his hundred, his bat unleashed an even more aggressive assault.
Following his century, he played a whirlwind knock hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes to wrap up the match in just 41.4 overs. Kohli scored 139 runs off only 88 balls, including 10 fours and 9 sixes. He sealed the victory by hitting two consecutive sixes. This marked the first time Kohli has hit 9 sixes in a single match.
