This player is embroiled in match-fixing:Incidents ranging from match-fixing to spot-fixing frequently surface in cricket, often bringing disrepute to the sport. Succumbing to the lure of bookies, several players have tarnished the game's image.

However, a fixing scandal has now emerged from the world of football as well, resulting in the arrest of a 24-year-old player. The case involves the Laos national football team, with winger Soukphachan Lueanthala facing serious allegations.

A sensational revelation has been made in a report by the British newspaper *The Guardian*. According to the report, Soukphachan Luanthala—a winger who has played 20 matches for Laos—has been arrested by his country's police on charges of match-fixing.

He is also accused of involvement in illegal betting and bribery. The arrest follows an investigation by the Lao Football Federation (LFF), which handed the matter over to the police.

The case is linked to the ASEAN Championship held in July of this year. In that tournament, the Laos team finished last (fifth) in their group; they lost all four of their matches, conceding 20 goals while scoring only three.

Soukphachan Luanthala played in three of those four matches. Following the team's dismal performance, the LFF launched an investigation, and Luanthala's name emerged prominently during the questioning of players.

Citing sources, the report states that Luanthala was not acting alone in the fixing scheme but was also instructing his teammates.

It is alleged that he was doing this to assist a foreign betting syndicate based in Vietnam. Consequently, the LFF reported its findings to the police, leading to the player's arrest.
