Team India Squad Update: Kumar Kushagra Included Ahead of 2nd T20 Match

The Indian cricket team has made a fantastic start to its tour of New Zealand, securing a 4-wicket victory in the first match of the five-game T20 series. The second match is scheduled to be played on October 24 at the Christchurch stadium. However, the Indian team has suffered a setback just a day before the match: Ishan Kishan will be unable to play due to a minor injury to his right leg.

In light of this, the BCCI has decided to bring 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra into the squad as a replacement for Ishan Kishan. Kushagra, who hails from Jharkhand, is already in New Zealand, having traveled there for the unofficial Test series between 'India A' and 'New Zealand A'. He has now joined the Indian team ahead of the second T20 match.

Team India's updated squad for the second T20 match:

Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (Wicketkeeper), Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Tilak Varma (Vice-Captain), Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Naman Dhir, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Kumar Kushagra (Wicketkeeper).

Kumar Kushagra is also part of the ODI squad

When the BCCI announced the squad for the New Zealand tour, 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Jharkhand, Kumar Kushagra, was included in the Indian team for the final two matches. Now, he has also earned a spot in the T20 squad. In his career so far, Kumar Kushagra has played 33 T20 matches, scoring 694 runs at an average of 27.76, including five half-centuries.

The medical team is monitoring Ishan Kishan's injury

The BCCI has announced the inclusion of Kumar Kushagra in the squad for the second T20 match against New Zealand, while also providing an update on Ishan Kishan's injury. The BCCI stated that Ishan has sustained an 'adductor strain' (a muscle strain), which will prevent him from playing in the second match. The BCCI's medical team is closely monitoring his condition.
