Mumbai Indians have signed American fast bowler Tara Norris from UP Warriorz ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2027 season. The left-arm pacer made headlines during the inaugural WPL season in 2023 when she took five wickets in her debut match for Delhi Capitals.
The ₹10 lakh trade comes ahead of the WPL 2027 mini auction, as franchises prepare their squads for the upcoming season. Norris will now have an opportunity to make her mark with Mumbai Indians after previously representing Delhi Capitals in the tournament.
Mumbai Indians Sign Tara Norris from UP Warriorz Ahead of WPL 2027
Mumbai Indians have acquired Tara Norris through a direct cash trade with UP Warriorz. The American fast bowler has joined the franchise for ₹10 lakh, the same amount UP Warriorz paid to sign her ahead of the 2026 season.
The deal involves only cash, with Mumbai Indians not sending any player to UP Warriorz in exchange. The move adds another bowling option to Mumbai's squad before the upcoming mini auction.
Norris has previously played for Delhi Capitals in the WPL and has also been associated with the Mumbai Indians franchise through MI London in England's The Hundred competition.
Tara Norris Created WPL History with 5 Wickets on Her Debut
Tara Norris made her WPL debut for Delhi Capitals against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 5, 2023. She delivered an outstanding performance, taking five wickets for 29 runs in four overs.
Her impressive spell made her the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in the Women's Premier League. She also became the first player from an Associate nation to feature in the tournament.
During the inaugural WPL season, Norris played five matches and picked up seven wickets. She finished with a bowling average of 12.71 and an economy rate of 8.09, establishing herself as a promising bowling option.
Why Did Delhi Capitals Release Tara Norris After WPL 2023?
Despite her impressive debut season, Delhi Capitals released Norris ahead of the 2024 WPL season. She later joined UP Warriorz for the 2026 edition.
However, Norris could not feature in any matches for UP Warriorz because of her commitments with the USA team during the T20 World Cup Qualifier.
Her move to Mumbai Indians gives her another opportunity to return to the WPL and showcase her bowling skills in the upcoming season.

Why Tara Norris Could Not Play for UP Warriorz in WPL 2026
UP Warriorz signed Norris ahead of the 2026 season, but her international commitments prevented her from appearing in any matches for the franchise.
The American pacer was busy with the USA team during the T20 World Cup Qualifier. As a result, she did not get the opportunity to contribute on the field for UP Warriorz.
Her move to Mumbai Indians ahead of WPL 2027 could provide a fresh start, depending on her availability and selection for the playing XI.
Tara Norris Has a Previous Connection with Mumbai Indians
Tara Norris has already been associated with the Mumbai Indians franchise through MI London in England's The Hundred competition.
Her signing for Mumbai Indians in the WPL marks another chapter in her franchise cricket career. The left-arm pacer will look to make the most of this opportunity if she gets a place in the playing XI.
WPL 2027 Mini Auction: Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz Purse Details
The WPL 2027 mini auction is scheduled to take place in Kochi on October 28. The trade involving Norris is part of the franchises' preparations ahead of the auction.
According to reports, Mumbai Indians will have ₹90 lakh remaining in their purse after the trade and could sign up to six players at the auction.
UP Warriorz, meanwhile, are expected to have ₹3.75 crore available and could add up to eight players, including three overseas cricketers.
Can Tara Norris Repeat Her Historic Performance for Mumbai Indians?
Tara Norris will enter the upcoming season with the experience of a memorable WPL debut and previous franchise cricket appearances. Her five-wicket performance for Delhi Capitals remains one of the standout moments of her WPL career.
Mumbai Indians will hope that the American pacer can provide valuable bowling support in WPL 2027. Her availability, role in the squad and performance on the field will be key factors to watch when the new season begins.
